Dr Judith Fleming
Judith is a gynaecologist with over 30 years’ experience.
Judith wanted to be a doctor from a very young age, although it was initially as a brain surgeon, however walking over the threshold of the Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH) changed her life direction. Now teaching medical students and surgical registrars, Judith tells them she has never regretted the decision to specialise in the field of caring for women.
Completing her training at the RWH, Judith travelled overseas to the UK and Dubai, to gain some valuable experience. At home, Judith worked in country Victoria for 14 years before a change of scenery, assisting general surgeons in Melbourne in 2005. Realising the call of working with and caring for women was her true passion, she opened her own private practice in East Melbourne. In 2009 Judith opened a practice in Colac aimed at serving and caring for regional women.
Now living in the seaside town of Lorne, Judith is the director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Colac Area Health, recently deciding to close her East Melbourne practice to dedicate more time to serving the women of the Western Districts, Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula.
Judith’s specialty areas include:
Colposcopy. Managing and treating abnormal smears.
General Gynaecology Surgeon. Investigating and managing prolapse and heavy periods. With particular interest in managing clients with an abnormal smear result as well as other general gynaecological surgery.
Contraception Insertion. Specialising in the Mirena IUD as well as other contraceptive advice.
Bringing over 30 years of surgical experience as well as working with Fertility One, Judith is across the latest infertility treatments. Her rooms are purpose built with state-of-the-art laboratory and scientists on site, as well admin staff, Counsellors and a dedicated nursing staff. All designed to get the best outcome for you.
Outside medicine Judith is divided between her long-term interest in photography, cooking for friends and sewing (a useful skill for a surgeon).
Judith’s style is approachable, supportive and compassionate; and she is known for her detailed explanations (and diagrams), communicated with simplicity, a sense of humour and humanity. All of her patients are fully informed about their decision options, potential risks and ultimately the benefits of their actions – be it surgery, medication or simply watching and waiting for nature to heal.
Operating a private practice at Epworth Geelong, Judith also consults at St. Vincent’s Private in Werribee and performs Colposcopies at Epworth Richmond. For the uninsured, Judith offers consultations and surgery at Colac Area Health, with minimal waiting time.
